DC circuits Interview Questions 

Hello.

I want to build an electric motorcycle by modifying a road bike to use a pair of deep-cycle automotive batteries, or perhaps capacitors or something else entirely. This vehicle is to be built on the cheap, but I want it to have high (40-60 mph top speed) performance, fair acceleration, and good range. I intend to accomplish the latter by regenerative braking, which as I understand it, would be fairly easy to do by reversing the polarity (maybe not the right word) of a DC motor through switches.

Questions-
-Where can I find such a motor? Can I pull one out of junked appliances? If so, which ones?
-What's the best way to store power? If I do use two batteries, should they be in series or parallel? What about capacitors?
-What's the best way to regulate power draw?
-How can I be most efficient with the power I gain by regenerative braking?

If possible, please provide links, or, preferably, a circuit diagram. I'm not really happy with the diagram I made.

two inert electrodes from a DC source dip into a beaker of water containing phenolphthalein. A bulb is also included int he circuit. What is observed when the following are added
a) alcohol
b)sodium hydroxide
c) potassium iodide
For the changes that occur at the electrodes, what are the half equations involved.
That's the question. I know that alcohol (ethanol) does not conduct electricity so the bulb doesn't light and I don't think any changes occur....am I right?
With the NaOH, the Na is a spectator as it is too stable to be displaced but what changes happen at the electrodes and what are the half equations for it?
Again, the K is a spectator as it is so stable but what happens with the iodide and what's the half equations?
This is driving me nuts as my textbook doesn't cover these combinations.
Please help.

I have a monophonic push-pull 6V6GT amplifier/preamplifier chasis from the mid 50's that needs some new electrolytics to replace the originals. I've bought caps with acceptable values, but I'm not sure how to install them. There's the stock four-section filter can, which has four tube socket-like leads coming out the bottom. Each of these leads corresponds to a symbol of some sort (square, semi-circle, or triangle,) I think telling me which lead corresponds to which cap in the can. I do believe the set grounds to the filter cap, but beyond that I'm not sure. Point is, I just can't figure out the symbols nor the circuit- my filter cap circuitry looks to be more complex than anything I've seen on the Web! I just need to know roughly how to wire in the new caps below, obeying polarity in building a new pack.

Perhaps there's somebody like a guitar amp tech or radio restorer who can look at my picture and help figure this out. I've included a photo of both my chasis and filter cap. Basically, I'm looking for a more personal bit of help in how to do this to clear up what Web guides don't. I've already soldered in new Mallory polys to replace the paper CDEs, but this just escapes me. I know it's a lot of work to look at my circuit and explain, but it might get me really into the hobby :D

And yes; the amp runs AS-IS with some buzzing and hum, and yes, my multimeter says the caps have no DC voltage on them. There's no schematics available, but if you need it, I can take a shot of the full under-chasiss.

Lastly, I'd like to thank in advance anyone nice enough to reply. If you know a better place to ask this, or just have general advice on how to do this, I'd also appreciate it.

i'm entering a robotics games competition. my robot requires the use of several motors to move certain parts of the robots. though the weight of the robot is about 5kgs, i'm using about 3 motors. power is not an issue, because i'm adding a driver circuit on top of the microcontroller-unit.

the problem is, there are so many different types of motors to choose from:
1) DC motor
2) Servo motor
3) Stepper motor
4) AC motor

the internet's definitions seems quite complex, and the differences are somehow vague (like servomotors is just a dc motor, with added mct).

can you please give me a clear but simple explanation of their differences?

I came across an industrial machine that takes three phase 220 v as input. It also contains a DC power supply that takes 220 V AC single phase as input and produces 24 V Dc as output. The issue is that I did not see a neutral line and there isn't any conversion circuit that converts from three phase to singel phase. The question is: is it normal or even possible to use the earth line as an alternative for the neutrl line and therefore obtain a 220 V AC from one of the phases? is this normal practice in industrial machines or was the wiring incorrect in this machine and there has to be a neutral line to produce the 220 V?

I am repairing a UPS system which inverter IGBT using 2MBI150N-120 (150A 1200V) was found faulty,and I just have 2MBI150N-060(150A 600V) in stock,do you think that I can use 2MBI150N-060 instead of 2MBI150N-120?The DC rectifier Voltage produced to the IGBT pins C1 & E2 is just 435Vdc.Thanks!!!!

Pls refer to this circuit.This is the circuit for the UPS inverter o/p,if I put 2 different brand IGBT,Q1(brand A)&Q2 (brand B).both 1200Vdc 150A,don't know it works or not?

I hav studied that we can convert a DC to AC. But for perfect AC we need a rotor to rotate around a magnetic field and thus we get AC.There are generators which run on diesel/ fuels in general. We hav Invertors which convert DC to AC depending on their capacity.So why nobody created a equipment which can generate AC without any continuous source like fuels/ Battery.My question is very clear.Is it not possible to create a POWER PRODUCING MACHINE which can GENERATE POWER FROM DIESEL IN THE BEGINNING TO START / BATTERY TO START AND THEN CONTINUOUSLY PRODUCE AC.Just looping the power generated by the generator to AN ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT so that it gets the power and so it can generate more power needed for a full house.Making it a loop.Getting power AS INPUT AND Generating ELECTRICITY.If we have this kind of machine then we dnt need to pay government for the electricity.we dnt need to burn so much coal. If we didnt burn coal for electricity then we can save atmosphere too.Y NOBODY DID THIS?

Kamal Karna Roy (also known as Kamal K.K. Roy and Rev. Dr. Joseph Geronimo, Jr.) is a prolific pro se litigant who, since at least the early 1990s, has filed numerous lawsuits throughout the United States and its territories under the names Roy and Joseph Geronimo, Jr., as well as under the names of entities that he is affiliated with, including International Siva Consciousness & World Religions, Reforms International, Handicap Interests International, and Jungle Democracy.[1] Roy's lawsuits are often brought against multiple defendants, and feature long, unconventional complaints. Roy has filed lawsuits against God, U.S. Presidents, Supreme Court Justices, fast food restaurants, foreign leaders.[2], and Wikipedia [3] [4].

Roy's lawsuits have addressed, among many other things, actions taken by President George W. Bush, overcharging by telecommunication companies, the appointment of Chief Justice John Roberts to the Supreme Court, and "failure of democratic societies and God's role therein."[5] In 2006 Judge Michael W. McConnell of The United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit described a typical Roy complaint:

Roy, a/k/a Joseph Geronimo, Jr. filed a 115-page complaint, a 144-page amended complaint, and a 40-page second amended complaint against over sixty defendants, including among many others President Bush, God as U.S.-based divine benefactor, several government agencies, The New York Times, and Kentucky Fried Chicken. In addition to pages of rambling discourse, the complaint contains numerous illegible handwritten remarks.[6]

The Tenth Circuit went on to affirm the district court's dismissal of the complaint holding that no discernible claim was apparent from the complaint. Judge McConnell also humorously noted that the court "strongly suspect[ed] at least one defendant was not properly served."[7]

Most, if not all, of Roy's complaints have been dismissed. A 2006 United States District Court for the District of Delaware opinion, Jungle Democracy v. U.S., describes Roy as "no stranger to litigation" and provides a partial list of Roy lawsuits that have been dismissed since 1991.[8]

Despite Roy's lack of success in the courts, his lawsuits have been discussed in law school classrooms and in law related blogs.[9] [10]

In April 2007 Roy filed a civil rights action against, among others, CBS Broadcasting Inc., MSNBC, the United States Government, and controversial radio shock jock Don Imus.[11]

In October 2007, Roy filed a suit in the US District Court, Middle District of Florida, against "Wikipedia Encyclopedia, USA, All News Media, All State Board of Elections, Federal Election Commission". See Dkt. 3:07-cv-00994-VMC-HTS.

Kamal Karna Roy (also known as Kamal K.K. Roy and Rev. Dr. Joseph Geronimo, Jr.) is a prolific pro se litigant who, since at least the early 1990s, has filed numerous lawsuits throughout the United States and its territories under the names Roy and Joseph Geronimo, Jr., as well as under the names of entities that he is affiliated with, including International Siva Consciousness & World Religions, Reforms International, Handicap Interests International, and Jungle Democracy.[1] Roy's lawsuits are often brought against multiple defendants, and feature long, unconventional complaints. Roy has filed lawsuits against God, U.S. Presidents, Supreme Court Justices, fast food restaurants, foreign leaders.[2], and Wikipedia [3] [4].

Roy's lawsuits have addressed, among many other things, actions taken by President George W. Bush, overcharging by telecommunication companies, the appointment of Chief Justice John Roberts to the Supreme Court, and "failure of democratic societies and God's role therein."[5] In 2006 Judge Michael W. McConnell of The United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit described a typical Roy complaint:

Roy, a/k/a Joseph Geronimo, Jr. filed a 115-page complaint, a 144-page amended complaint, and a 40-page second amended complaint against over sixty defendants, including among many others President Bush, God as U.S.-based divine benefactor, several government agencies, The New York Times, and Kentucky Fried Chicken. In addition to pages of rambling discourse, the complaint contains numerous illegible handwritten remarks.[6]

The Tenth Circuit went on to affirm the district court's dismissal of the complaint holding that no discernible claim was apparent from the complaint. Judge McConnell also humorously noted that the court "strongly suspect[ed] at least one defendant was not properly served."[7]

Most, if not all, of Roy's complaints have been dismissed. A 2006 United States District Court for the District of Delaware opinion, Jungle Democracy v. U.S., describes Roy as "no stranger to litigation" and provides a partial list of Roy lawsuits that have been dismissed since 1991.[8]

Despite Roy's lack of success in the courts, his lawsuits have been discussed in law school classrooms and in law related blogs.[9] [10]

In April 2007 Roy filed a civil rights action against, among others, CBS Broadcasting Inc., MSNBC, the United States Government, and controversial radio shock jock Don Imus.[11]

In October 2007, Roy filed a suit in the US District Court, Middle District of Florida, against "Wikipedia Encyclopedia, USA, All News Media, All State Board of Elections, Federal Election Commission". See Dkt. 3:07-cv-00994-VMC-HTS.

You only need one resistor insert either before the rectifier or after the rectifier. In order to cut down the size of resistor (less wattage),you may choose use half wave rectification (use only one diode). 240v AC after passing a single diode,its output becomes about 140 volt DC. R = (140-12)/1A = 128 ohms
W = 1^2 * 128 = 128 watts
Use resistor to lower down higher voltage is widely used in circuit design. But it only design for milli ampere application.
Therefore, big wattage resistor is not required. Most resistor exist in circuit use not more than 3 watts.

I was given the following question in one of my assignments and I'm not sure how to answer it. Any explanations and insight would be greatly appreciated.

"Suppose that the DC field winding of a synchronous motor is replaced by a low impedance short circuited coil/s and the stator is supplied with a three-phase AC, would the rotor spin (rotate)?
If the answer is yes, would the rotor follow the direction of that of the RMF? Explain.
If the answer is yes, would the rotor speed be same as that of the RMF, like in a synchronous machine? Explain."

This tv is about 10 years old, which I would ilke to repair.
I replaced several parts, horizontal output driver and transistor, SCR for switching power supply, some diodes, several capacitors in the power supply circuit.
Originally fuse was burning out. Now it is continuously clicking which seems to be coming from flyback transformer.
When I check the voltage at the output of scr it is fluctuating between 85vdc and 150vdc.
A friend of mine tells me flyback transformer needs replacement.
I checked all the resistance readings on its windings with a special ohms meter, they all seems to be as indicated in the service manual.
Obviously there are no oscillations and therefore no low volatge dc outputs. No high voltage output either.
I believe flyback transformer needs air gap adjustment by using two plastic adjustment screws, so I can get oscillations, and then voltage outputs.
I have the sam photofact service manual.
I would appreciate any thoughts.
