Interview Question :: 1994 Doge Caravan 3.0L Automatic Code 15, No Speedometer

I have a 1994 Caravan, 3.0l V6 3 speed automatic A/C No Cruse control. and for a while during humid/rain days my Speedometer would cut out, causing the van too go into Limp-home-mode and the check engine light would also go on. Turning the car on/off waiting a while and the problem would fix its self, until recently were it has cut out and not come back. the computer gave me code 12 and 15 12 is the battery disconnected message, and code 15 says the speed sensor. So I went too the junk yard, and tried 2 different speed sensors hoping too fix the problem, but no luck, and no speed sensor. At one point I had too replace the Body control module, and the temperature gage has never worked since I replaced it... I have tried opening every plug under the hood i could get my hands on, spraying them with contract cleaner and putting dielectric grease and reseting the connections, still with no luck.
what else might I be missing ?

Code 15 no vehcle speed signal seen at PCM is commonly just a case of a bad distance sensor, located on the extension housing (Pass side transaxle opening). It could be a short in the wiring harness in that circuit. replace the speed sensor w/ a new one, or to check the wiring you would have to check resistance and a short to ground from the sensor connector to the pins at the PCM 60 way connector behind the battery get a wiring diagram at have at it.

well apparently u've been answer, I just wanted to add that ,,electronics are not good when used, so its a pain when dealing with shorts, but still try and check wirings specially under ure van.....and lastly look at replacing ure speed sensor with a """""new"""" one not use....better yet try and take it to an electric technician, because ure control module might be bad, not ure cpm but ure module...

To me it doesn't sound like a sensor fault more then likely it's the TCM circuit itself or in the feed, plus you've obviouslly tried another sensor in there.

If you've the 60 pin transmission module=TCM in that vehicle as I think you do then you need to do some trouble shooting with a test probe light or a good voltage meter.

Start with pin 56 on the TCM it should be hot or giving 12volts with the test probe negative lead wire connected to the negative battery post and the probes point on the TCM pin 56 wire.If the wire isn't giving you 12 volts then that's your problem right there bec the transmission relay feeds that wire via a fuse.So try the fuse and it should be one of the 20amp fuses in the fuse box under the hood.If it is the wire faulty and it probably is a wire causing this fault and the TCM to go nuts or even blow out simply replace the wire but be sure you use the same 16 gauge wire.Don't put any other gauge wire in it's place but one main wiring rule is to use the same exact gauge wiring and not doing so could cause you major headaches.

Take the transmission relay out and try seeing if any of the pins on the fuse where the relay plugs into are hot or lighting the probe up.If no power is at any of those connections on the relay then more then likely it's the relay's fuse that is at fault or the fuse isn't getting power from the fuse box for some reason.

Try that test and let me know how it goes bec I can help you testing the rest of the TCM circuit and do have a proper wiring diagram too.By the way that pin 56 should be hot in any ignition position. It should be a red wire with a white stripe on it but I'm not sure bec when assembling they may of made changes.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way I myself have been fixing the same type of problem with my Dodge and there are several known problems with that TCM circuit.
