Interview Question :: Is the CAGE CODE something that I should be scared to death about? Looks like more than the TV is changing2-09

I understand the new CAGE CODE to be a code given to certain government, and retail 'entities' to protect their location... I have not looked into it further, but it seems fishy...but like I said I have not looked into it further. I found this term when I was going through the dtv2009.gov site to get a coupon for a free converter box for the upcoming change in feb of 09 and when I typed in my question of , " ...will analog signals transmitted from remote locations for tv broadcast be changing to digital broadcasts...?"
This is when CAGE CODES were mentioned on the screen.

From what I can find out about it it almost sounds like the call signs we have today. You register with some agency, they give you a call sign, and then when you broadcast your call sign they can look up and tell where you are broadcasting from and who you are. I don't see anything sinister here, but I'm sure someone will. More info: I think what you were looking at was about becoming a converter retailer, and I guess since that would make you a government contractor, you have to have a CAGE number, which is something required to do business with the government.

The CAGE CODE is simply a numerical designation given to any company that manufactures any item for sale directly to the government. There is nothing new about it. I have worked as a defense electronics engineer for over 25 years, and every schematic and specification I have ever generated or reviewed has had a CAGE code marked on it. Stop being so paranoid.
