RE: Mesh analysis to solve an electrical circuit?

Write out equations for the voltages in the loops:

Loop 1:

10V = ic*5 + 20*(ic-i2)

Note i2 is the (clockwise) current in loop 2.

since i2 = -0.4*vc , substitute to get

10V = ic*5 + 20*(ic+0.4*vc)

where

vo = 20*(ic-i2) = 20*(ic+0.4*vc)

Loop 2:

the sources muck it up so we just write

vc=10*(5A-i2) = 10*(5A+0.4vc)

from which you can solve for vc and i2.

Now you can solve for ic above (using vc).

Then, you can solve for vo.

Then, use P=V^2/R to find the power in the 20ohm resistor.

Hope this helps.
